Vincent (Bill Murray) is a baby boomer who failed to adequately plan for his retirement. His money has ran out. Fred Thompson won't give him another dime on his reverse mortgage. He has a rough exterior as he drinks, gambles, and frequents a prostitute (Naomi Watts). Circumstance places him as a baby sitter for puny Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) the son of soon to be single mom Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) who has her own issues. While Vinny introduces Oliver to vices, he also sees the basic compassion and humanity in the man no one would expect to have any.The film is funny and heart warming almost as if it was a Magnolia indie. Murray and McCarthy did an excellent job as did the supporting cast. Chris O'Dowd as Brother Geraghty was a hoot.Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex. No nudity.

If someone can play a character who seems despicable, but has a warmth to him (and has more dimensions than one), it definitely is Bill Murray. And he's showing it off here. While this might have gone completely wrong with someone else in the lead, this works almost perfectly. You also get to see Melissa McCarthy being the "straight" person for once. Yes she can act and be more than just a goof-ball.Naomi Watts has a difficult small role, but she manages to do a fine job (even with that accent, that might put some people off, no pun intended). Also a great choice is the kid. He's obviously elemental and very important to the whole story. It may be slow paced and some might not feel the complete impact towards the end, but the movie does a very solid job

Bill Murray shows his acting range in this film by playing a despicable human being that you can't help but to like, as Vincent, an angry old man who takes on the job of a babysitter to his new neighbor's young son in order to make some extra cash he surely needs. Melissa McCartney, who plays the neighbor is also in the movie. I love McCartney, but it was obvious from the start that this is Big Bill's show and he's leading this dance, while Melissa and Naomi Watts, who also stars in the film are just tools to move the story along. A task any actress could have done, but having Naomi and Melissa makes the movie better to market. I wish I got more laughs for McCartney, but like I said, this is totally Bill's ride, and it was a good one.
